Check With Your Dentist To See If You Need A Root Canal And Crown

If you have problems with your teeth, then you want to get them taken care of as soon as possible. That's because problems with your teeth can turn into serious health problems. If you have an abscess, the infection can get into the rest of your blood system and move into various places in your body. There are things that you can do that will help to prevent that problem and give you teeth that you are comfortable with. One of the things that you can do to handle the problem is to have a root canal done and get a crown placed over the tooth.

Root Canal

A root canal is a procedure that can generally be done in one day, but your dentist may have to do it in a couple of steps depending on how severe any infection might be. What happens is that the dentist will numb the area or even completely sedate you, if you want. Then they will go into the tooth and clean out all the pulp and the nerve that is found in the tooth. Next, they will go down along the root of the tooth and get rid of any decay and infection that they find in there. Once they have cleared out all the decay, the pulp, and the nerve, the dentist will seal up the tooth so that nothing else can get in there. If there is a bad abscess or severe infection, the dentist may start the process and then pack some antibiotics down into the area to fight off the infection before they do anything else. You would have to have at least two appointments if that happens. After the dentist does the root canal, they may suggest that you get a crown to cover the tooth.

Crowns

Crowns are basically caps that are put over your tooth. There are temporary crowns that your dentist can put on your tooth while you are waiting for the permanent one. The permanent one will generally be made out of a dental porcelain or resin, will be dyed to match your teeth, and will be custom made for your mouth. Your dentist will take a mold of your mouth to use to see how that tooth fits into your mouth so that that the crown fits. When they have the permanent crown, the dentist will rough up the outside of your tooth a little bit so that the adhesive will have something to grab on to, and then put the crown on your tooth. No one will be able to tell that you have it because it will look just like the rest of your teeth.

If you are worried about your teeth and you think that you might have an infection starting, then you should go see your dentist because you may need to have a root canal and get a crown. Visit websites like http://www.barnstabledental.com for more information.
